So I’m noticing a wide discrepancy in opinions between those who’ve read physical copies of the book versus those who’ve read the electronic version. If you’ve read (or even seen) the Kindle version, you know that Broken Angels is book one in a series (a limited series, I promise). If you’ve only seen (and read) the softcover, you could finish the book and be left thinking “WTF?!?!” Why weren’t all the plot threads tied up? And where’s the effin’ Apocalypse??
Much of this, of course, is my fault. I neglected to indicate on the cover that this was book one in a series, not a standalone. Just as bad, on the advice of (all!) my beta readers, I omitted the original post-script at the end of the book, which explains quite a bit.
So, in part, to rectify the situation, I am posting the post-script of Broken Angels here on my site (look to your left, please).
I also want to clarify: Broken Angels is not a Young Adult fantasy novel. Nor is it strictly an urban fantasy. The subgenre in which it more appropriately belongs is Metaphysical Fantasy (action/adventure mixed with philosophy/theology). As one astute reviewer has pointed out, think Philip Pullman’s The Amber Spyglass, but written for adults. Thus, the book, while containing plenty of action, also contains serious philosophy and (shudder) poetry… Not to mention a few plot threads that will be tied up in future books.
The Kirkus Review has been the best so far and–thankfully–is the one getting the most exposure. If this sounds like your type of book, please check out a copy and share your opinion with the world–or at least your closest friends…
